The year was 1974 and Harvey Fitterman was sunning his shoulder length hair against one of the hundred year old oaks in Piedmont Park without a thought that soon he would be serving one of the best country meals in Atlanta. Harvey used to eat at the American Lunch Restaurant everyday and when Jimmy Capes decided to retire, Harvey took over.
In the midst of Atlanta's thriving hippie district American Lunch served a menu of ten to fifteen fresh vegetables along with country fried steak and fried chicken. Harvey expanded the concept and over the years opened Restaurants in Executive Park, Peachtree Center, Piedmont Center and the Bell South Building as well as owning the Dunk and Dine on Cheshire Bridge with his business partner for the last ten years.
Well the shoulder length hair has seen better days and the hippie generation has passed into the history books. About five years ago Harvey and his wife Leslie decided to move out to the suburbs with their four boys and by chance discovered a location a few minutes from their home and built a wonderful small restaurant dedicated to providing a truly family restaurant experience.
Out of this desire Curbside Cafe was started and on any day or evening you can find either Harvey or Leslie attending to the need of their customers and if you look carefully in the back you may find one of their four kids helping with the dishes and perhaps one of the kids back in the office doing his homework.
Curbside Cafe roots are still with the American Lunch. The menu is filled with entrees such as salmon, tilapia, brisket and grilled chicken, but there are still the country selections like fresh collards, squash and blackeyed peas.
Curbside Cafe is dedicated to serving quality meals, good portions and decent prices in a family atmosphere!
